Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does MyWard work on the iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, or Blackberry?

A. Yes actually. You may convert MLS files to iSilo format. iSilo is availabe on for the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry, among other platforms.

Q. How do I register?

A. Obtain your registration code online here. You will be sent a registration code based on your name and email you submitted. Once you receive you code via email, open MyWard and go to Help Register and enter the information provided in the email. You must then re-convert your files to remove the demo message you see at the top of each screen.

Q. Does MyWard support the new MLS system (exported CSV files)?

A. Yes, as of version 1.5.

Q. When trying to convert to MLS format I get the following error: "Can't open MEMOUT.DAT (A:\MEMOUT.DAT): No such file or directory". What am I doing wrong?

A. This and similar errors are due to the process I used to create MLS files. Because I originally wrote MyWard for MIS data I thought it might be easier to create a MLS to MIS conversion tool and then use the .DAT files created from this tool to generate the output. This was the quickest implementation I could come up with for the request for MLS. I'm working on a complete rewrite of MyWard that will get rid of external calls to Perl scripts and be developed strictly using the .NET framework. The new version should be more stable with more features.

Until this project is complete I wanted users to have the ability to continue using this tool even though their ward may have converted to MLS. As far as this error and others users may be experiencing, since I don't have actual MLS data to test I can't very well debug it. I would suggest trying to transfer your MLS files to your hard drive (like C:\temp) and trying running the conversion again (as the MIS formatted .DAT files are created in the same location as the MLS files and there may not be enough room on a floppy disk to store both formats).

I will continue to work on a solution for these errors but hopefully this workaround will get you up and running until then. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Q. When I run my Ward and select Create My Ward Files, I receive an error in the cmd window that says "substr outside of string at line 181, <IN> line 1. Press any key to continue . . .". What am I doing wrong?

A. In most situations this is due to the .DAT files being downloaded for MIS incorrectly. Make sure you choose option 3.7.3 and make sure no delimiter is selected. If you open MEMOUT.DAT in notepad and it is filled with "^" characters then you have probably selected this character as a delimiter.

Here is a screenshot of MIS and the values you should use:

Q. My MLS files are not being converted into MyWard correctly. Am I doing something wrong?

A. Recent updates to MLS have changed the layout to the export files. Rather than continuing to build patches and workarounds, I'm working rewriting MyWard completely which will be more flexible and only support MLS for future releases. Q. How do I get MyWard into YanCEyWare?

A. See the help documentation for this information.

Q. When converting MLS, some families are not showing up correctly in the Speed Directory. How can I get it to show all my families?

A. First, I would try to download the latest beta version of MyWard as this should resolve the issue. Otherwise, as a current work-around, try opening your Membership.csv file in Excel, and sort ascending by Preferred Name. This should solve the problem. Contact me if you need further instructions.

Q. I'm getting and "Out of environment space" error when trying to convert the files. What should I do?

A. This should only be a problem on Windows 95 & 98 machines. Try this solution from Microsoft:
